As summer winds down, many of us are gearing up for major life shifts. Our lazy days of fun and freedom are coming to a close, at least for this year. August is often a time of transition.
Perhaps you are moving or starting a new lease. Maybe school is starting for you or those in your household. With these changes we often begin to feel more anxious. We may feel overwhelmed by the added responsibilities and the busier schedules. Or perhaps out of control as we anticipate the stress of the unknown and the racing from one thing to the next that is sure to begin soon.
Does this sound like you? No matter what this month brings, I think most of us are longing for more peace in our lives! We just need a little space to pause and regroup.
Here are some survival tips for reducing anxiety that comes with the shift of the school year.
Begin each day with intention... before you even get out of bed...pause... take a few breaths and imagine feeling exactly how you want to feel today.
Wake up with enough time to get ready more slowly or even enjoy a walk outside or a slow cup of coffee/ tea.
Pause while you eat your lunch. Try not to multitask while eating and focus on eating mindfully. Our digestion slows when we are stressed. Taking this time will allow your body to digest more efficiently.
Pause for 5 min in the car...just allow yourself to breathe and absorb your day before moving to the next thing.
Set a regular time to be still for 5 min each day and make it non-negotiable!
